FLU

At habang nagtatype ako dito, panay aking pag-hahhahatsssingggg! Huhuhu. I'm a nurse who needs a nurse.

Humihina na kaya ang immunity ko? Baka may HIV ako-eeeekkk!!!

Chaka man o hindi.

New Beginnings

It's graduation month last month (This was supposed to be posted weeks ago but I'm lazy.) and I am happy that two of my siblings have marched on the stage. We're four kids in the family with a 1-yr gap. It was supposed to be a 4 consecutive annual celebration on finishing college. However, my brother is a nautical student which means he only has 3 years to study and 1 more year for his apprentice.

You know what they always say that graduation is not the end but the beginning? I strongly agree. It's like "welcome to the real world". And I say to you, it's a tough world huhuhu. (Until now I'm unemployed!)
Just take a good look at these guys. They may have nice cute faces but that does not guarantee a nice future. hmmpf!

And speaking of new beginnings, I went to a diagnostics center to have an HIV test. I was just curious because the past year has been so horny for me. At first I kind of hesitated and afraid I might not handle the consequences. But as they say, the truth will set you free. The results are seen below. (Drumroll please.)At first, my mind was in dont-rejoice-yet-what-does-nonreactive-mean mode. And so it was confirmed. Okay, drop the confetti...

I guess I'll start a new (a safer one) life early on before Easter!

Dear Florence Nightingale,

the founder of nursing

Ever since I was a kid, I never dreamt of becoming a nurse. When I was in elementary, I ambitioned to become either a businessman, a doctor, or a scientist. When I was in high school, I wanted to become a priests but my sexuality issue prevented me from pursuing that vocation. When I graduated from highschool, I passed the UPCAT and was eligible to take up MassComm. I could have been a reporter or a part of a TV show now have I not decline such wasted opportunity.

Greed. It was all about selfishness and how to make money. During those days, nursing was one of the "in" courses to take. It's because of the so-called global nursing shortage. Plus, my friends were also into it.

I regret it. Seriously. The more I hang on to this course (for me it's curse), the more I realize that I was never meant to become a nurse. But now, here I am suffering the consequences- a registered yet unemployed nurse. At present, I'm doing a volunteer (meaning zero salary) to a nearest hospital in my place.

Another reason why I dread nursing is due to several mistakes I have made while I am now in the hospital:

1) I'm careless. I gave the wrong medicine to a patient. Instead of giving an anti-ulcer drug, I injected an antibitotic. I never told anybody about that.

2) I'm bad in observation. I was not able to notice a lethargic patient. I was the last nurse who handled the medicine to the parents of the sick child. Hours later, he died.

3) I'm guilty of thinking lustfully with a hunk resident doctor. (will make a separate post on this)

I don't know what to do with myself. I'm broke.

Phobia Replaced by Ridicule

I have been a volunteer nurse for quite sometime now in our local health center. Mahirap kasing humanap ng trabaho ngayon. Right now, we've been busy with the Measles Mop-up Program wherin we distribute anti-measles vaccine shots to every school from pre-school to high school.
Sometimes we have to wrestle with these kids just to get it done. Mean na kung mean.

Every school that we go in, we were welcomed with some fear and anxiety. And so it has been a routine to introduce ourselves, educate these pupils, and tell them to be ready. Thank God i don't have to do it, it's always been delegated to the midwife or the head of our team.

There is this excerpt her script has always caught my attention.

" Ang hindi magpapainjection, bading.... "

This predictably insulting phrase has been around for centuries even before the time I was born.
And the more i hear this, the more it creates a tunnel connecting my ears letting it pass through.
I don't blame the person who blurted it out for I know we're in this gender-role bounded society.

It's just so sad that we have been an image of cowardice and a subject of ridicule.

When would this scenario end? Only time could tell...
